|Brief Description of Duties:
The Associate Dean serves as Downstate’s DIO, or Designated Institutional Officer, for the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), responsible for the educational, fiscal and administrative health of the institution’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) activity, compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, support and development of its residency program directors, and wellbeing and development of its residents. Partnering with the Dean of the College of Medicine and other senior academic administrators, the Associate Dean is responsible for negotiating and maintaining affiliation contracts with partnering institutions for the purposes of faculty affiliations and GME training opportunities. SUNY-Downstate sponsors 48 ACGME accredited programs: 19 residencies, 29 fellowships, and a combined program in Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine, as well as several non-ACGME programs, accounting for approximately 930 residents and fellows. In order to provide trainees with appropriate clinical training experiences, the institution affiliates with 12 major participating sites - including most significantly the Kings County Hospital Center and the University Hospital of Brooklyn, both of which are on or contiguous with the SUNY-Downstate campus - and 18 additional sites. SUNY-Downstate and all its programs have a current status of "continued accreditation"; there are no programs with an adverse status.

|All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.|
REQUIRED: Must be an M.D. or D.O. and senior academic administrator, qualifying for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, with experience overseeing GME programs either directly as a Program Director or indirectly having supervised and supported GME programs. Must have a demonstrated commitment to leading excellent training programs providing exemplary clinical service for diverse urban populations.
