SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Clinical Associate Professor (HS).

The successful candidate will:
- Have appropriate academic credentials and an excellent clinical record to lead, develop, and run a tertiary referral surgical program.
- Have strong leadership skills in heart team building and be able to collaboratively work with cardiologists, as well as other faculty members. The selected individual will be responsible for the design and all operational aspects of the cardiothoracic surgical program.
- He or she will be expected to attend cardiac catheterization conferences and lead Heart team meetings, where patient clinical reviews, as well as operative selections, planning, and debriefings will be done collaboratively. Additionally, this individual will be expected to participate in all research and educational teaching activities of the Department of Surgery and the Division of Cardiothoracic surgery, including grand rounds and quality assessment/improvement conferences. The incumbent will have skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be an active participant in the departmentís residency and educational programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION

All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior.   Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.
Qualifications:
- New York State Medical License.
- Completed an accredited general surgery residency training program.
- Certification by the American Board of General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery or foreign equivalent.
- Fellowship training Thoracic and Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Experience working successfully and collaboratively with colleague, community leaders/physicians, and hospital administration.
- Experience in developing and supervising research programs.
- Preferable: a history of success in obtaining research funding from the AHA, NIH or other major cardiovascular surgery organizations.
