|Brief Description of Duties:
Reporting to the Vice President and Chief of Staff, the Director of Institutional Research and Decision Support works collaboratively with the five Schools and Student Affairs to provide data-driven support for planning, policy development, and strategic decision making. The Director supports the institution by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information essential for evaluating institutional effectiveness with an emphasis on student success. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Establishes, administers, and coordinates Downstate’s institutional research activities, including collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information on the characteristics of the institution for use in decision-making and strategic planning. Collaborating with senior leadership and IT to develop and maintain accurate, meaningful dashboards using key metrics and benchmarks. Proactively identifying data trends, data quality issues and recommendations for improvement. Documenting and revising workflows and data flows to improve the efficiency of key business processes. Serves as liaison and provides necessary support for the institution’s organizational effectiveness, planning, accreditation, evaluation, and financial activities. With assistance from support staff, serves as liaison from the institution to various authorities at the federal, state, and local levels for data reporting, research studies, and/or surveys. Oversees and monitors the overall integrity of data, complying with state and federal requirements and taking appropriate steps to correct data discrepancies when noted. Works with areas of the institution responsible for data input to improve process for collecting and inputting accurate data into the core system. Represents the college at federal, state, and local level meetings, seminars, and/or conferences as appropriate, and at professional organizations related to institutional research within the state, taking a leadership role where appropriate.

|All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.|
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Statistics, Education, Business, Social Science, or a related field. A deep understanding of higher education issues, good relationships with campus community; and some technical and data management skills. Experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting student-focused statistical data. Experience in developing and using reporting and analysis tools to present data to a variety of audiences. Proficient in the use of computer software for data extraction, verification, and analysis, as well as working with a relational database (familiarity with SQL, Excel, SPSS, SAS, or other statistical packages). Fluency with Ellucian Banner or similar enterprise systems, as well as data reporting tools such as Evisions Argos, Tableau or Oracle Discoverer.
