Brief Description of Duties:
The Medical Coder will abstract clinical information from the medical record and assign appropriate ICD-10CM and ICD-10PCS/or CPT codes according to established procedures. Maintain optimal standard of coding and assure uniformity of coding for compliance and reimbursement. Ensure the selection of accurate and descriptive codes from the appropriate classification system. Ensure the confidentiality of data contained on the patients' medical records, analyze the information in the medical records to ensure that the most appropriate codes are used. Queries the physicians for appropriate documentation. Work collaboratively with all departments and hospital staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION
|All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.|
REQUIRED: RRA/RHIA; or ART/RHIT; or CCS/CTRS or CCS-P coding certification. Ability to make coding decision based on use of established coding guidelines. Selected candidate must participate in ICD-10 training. PREFERRED: BS degree with related Health Information Management experience and 2-5 years direct coding experience in an acute care setting.
