|Additional Position Information: Represents Location Pay for full-time appointees. Hours of work: 9AM - 5PM. Days of week: Monday - Friday. Hours per week: 37.5. THIS POSITION IS REVISED.|
Brief Description of Duties:
The Coder performs abstracting and coding, using ICD-10CM and CPT, on all Ambulatory Surgery cases at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Bay Ridge. Accounts are coded utilizing the 3M encoder and Alpha System computer systems for coding and data entry. Perform related duties as assigned to meet operational needs. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease process and medical terminology. Skill to effectively assign codes. Knowledge in preparation for ICD10. Ability to work independently and be a self starter. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in the department and cross the Health System.

|All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.|
REQUIRED:RRA/RHIA;or ART/RHIT; or CCS/CTR or CCS-P coding certification. Ability to make coding decision based on use of established coding guidelines. Selected candidate must participate in ICD-10 training. PREFERRED: BS degree with related Health information Management experience and 3-5 years direct coding experience in an acute care setting.
