Brief Description of Duties:
Are you looking to take your career to new heights with a leader in healthcare? SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is one of the nation's leading metropolitan medical centers. As the only academic medical center in Brooklyn, we serve a large population that is among the most diverse in the world. We are also highly-ranked by Castle Connolly Medical, a healthcare rating company for consumers, among the top 5 leading U.S. medical schools for training doctors.

The Deparment of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Executive Chairman.

The successful candidate will:
- Be a critical leader and provide executive leadership, direction and administration of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in its College of Medicine (COM).
- Recruit, direct, and develop a faculty who, as a group, will offer the full range of obstetrical and gynecological services, including labor and deliver, maternal and fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, and gynecological oncological surgery at our home campus on Clarkson Avenue and our other affiliations with other teaching hospitals in our area and will provide services of a quality that will make it the first choice for surgical care in our region. With this foundation, we expect significant growth in general and sub-specialty care at University Hospital of Brooklyn (UHB), its associated satellite facilities, and Kings County Hospital (KCHC). We also expect that the faculty you recruit will significantly expand the range of services available to its patients while providing a superb educational experience for your residents.
- Maintaining and enhancing DHSU’s residency and fellowship programs in obstetrics and gynecology and our clerkship and elective offering for medical students. Our graduates have long been recognized as being well prepared to make significant contributions in their discipline but we believe that we can further enhance the quality and reputation of these programs and will rely on you and the faculty that will recruit to devote considerable attention to this task. Together with DHSU’s academic partners, these programs will prepare the next generation of leaders and practitioners in this field for careers in Brooklyn, New York City, and the nation and carve a place for DHSU as a leading center for state-of-the-art women’s health services.
- Building a broad array of strong research programs in clinical, translational, and population-focused research, and developing innovative research initiatives, either independently or in collaboration with other investigators at DHSU and its partners. A reputation for path-breaking research will, in turn, enhance our ability to attract patients, referrals, and residents, creating the foundation for a new phase of departmental growth.
