The Department of Surgery/ Transplant at SUNY Downstate is seeking a full time Senior Transplant Surgeon & Director of Pancreas Transplantation. The successful candidate will:

- Coordinate, organize and grow the Pancreas Transplant Surgery Service.
- Supervise all Pancreas Transplant Surgical care rendered by the attendings, physician assistants, fellows and residents
- Oversee quality assurance activities with the Division: Collaborates with department, division, hospital and school leadership on initiatives to expand the market share and scope of services provided by the Transplant Division
- Actively participates in Department, Hospital and campus-wide committees and work groups
- Fosters scholarly activity by Division faculty, and engages in own program publications and research
- Leads the Pancreas Transplant educational and fellowship programs
- Maintains a satisfactory balance between the clinical care, research and educational functions of the Pancreas Transplant Program
- Participates in any other activities assigned by the Department Chair and Division Chief.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION

All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior.   Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
- New York State medical license
- Board Certification/Eligibility or Foreign Equivalency in General Surgery or Urology
- Completion of American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS)-accredited fellowship in Multi-Organ Transplant Surgery
- Prior Medical School faculty appointment as Professor of Surgery and clinical teaching experience in Pancreas Transplantation.

PREFERRED:
- Minimum of 15 years experience in a leadership role as a Director of Transplant Surgery and clinical experience in pancreas transplantation.
- Proven leadership experience of multidisciplinary care teams
- Regional and national reputation for outstanding clinical and scholarly activity
- Principal author of peer reviewed research publications. Senior role in research trials of at least 10 years, ongoing research and publications.
