Brief Description of Duties: Under the general direction of a Nurse Administrator, Director of Nursing, or Assistant Director of Nursing, the incumbent: -Plans, directs, and supervises nursing practices on a nursing unit. -Delivers patient care serving as a role model, teacher, and resource person. -Assesses the work methods of the nursing staff providing feedback to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the care delivered. -Insures the development, documentation, and implementation of nursing care plans. -Integrates medical treatment into patient care activities and collaborates with the medical staff to provide safe care. -Coordinates the medical and nursing care needs of the residents with other disciplines and departments. -Ensures proper functioning of equipment. -Ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards. -Monitors the quality of nursing care rendered and the documentation of the nursing process. Implements corrective actions and re-evaluates the impact of remedial actions taken. -Identifies staffing learning needs and collaborates with unit educators to develop and implement educational programs. -Participates in resident and family educational programs. -Participates in the selection of staff and when appropriate in the selection of candidates for promotion. -Participates with the Nurse Administrator and other members of the Nursing Department in the orientation of new employees. -Assumes responsibility for the implementation of the orientation plan. -Reviews expectations and the evaluation process with each new employee. |

| All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization. | ||||||||||
|
Qualifications: New York State employees who hold a permanent appointment in this title will be considered for lateral transfer. Thereafter, all appointments will be made from the Civil Service List. If the Civil Service List yields an insufficient number of interested candidates, other candidates will be considered. REQUIRED: Current active, full and unrestricted NYS Registered Nurse License. BSN with minimum 2 years of nursing experience. Nationally recognized certification in their area of specialty required within first 3 years of assuming the role. Need to have Maternal Child experience. |
