The Department of Radiology/ Nuclear Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Medical Radiographer I. The successful candidate will:
- Perform those duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of Nuclear Medicine equipment.
- Ensures that all standard of care are met for our patient population.
- Adhere to the standards for all regulatory agencies such Joint Commission and NY Dept. of Health are met.
- Must become fully knowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures including quality control.
- Ability to prepare radiopharmaceuticals for administration by injection, ingestion and inhalation methods.
- Performs diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures at a technical level. Includes obtaining pertinent clinical and medical history of patients and obtaining follow- up examinations that were performed.
- Must demonstrate knowledge in the effects of radiation exposure, radiation procedures, radiopharmaceuticals, computer applications and imaging techniques.
- Also responsible for safety precautions for patients and workers in regards to radiation exposure.
- Ability to identify sources of radiation contamination and follow procedures cleanup and control of radioactive waste.
- Assists in training student technologist and medical students rotating through the department.
- Ability to deal with emergent situations and provide care base on emergent needs.
- Responsible for patient care while performing imaging studies, to include accuracy of patient identification.
- Problem solving skills regarding equipment usage
- Maintain a courteous and pleasant disposition with patients.
- Must adhere to all SUNY Downstate Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures to include principle of behavior
- Must adhere to time and attendance policies.
- All other departmental related duties and responsibilities.
- Learn and use computerized patient information systems, including Radiology Information System and PACS. Exams must be completed immediately in RIS and verify on PACS. Burning of CD’s and DVD’s when necessary.
- On-call, holiday and emergency coverage as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION

All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior.   Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.
Qualifications:
- AAS degree, or B.S preferred.
- Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB), ARRT certified.
- Three years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a hospital based setting performing all Nuclear Medicine procedure preferred.
