The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Physician Assistant. The successful candidate will: - Assessment and management of Cardiothoracic patients. - Perform patient histories and physical examinations. - Order and interpret diagnostic lab tests and radiological studies. - Write orders for medications or other various therapies. - Formulate other diagnostic impressions. - Refer to and converse with appropriate consultation services in regard to patient management. - Participate in rounds at the start through end of shift. - Assume all other responsibilities as assigned by the Chief or his/her designee. - Participate in QAPI, Patient Care / Patient Safety, and Special Projects. - Functions as first assistant on cardiac surgery cases - Provides post-operative management of patients in the CTICU - Assists in preparation and pre-operative management of Cardiothoracic patients. - Adheres to STS imperatives including pre-op medication management (pre-op BB admin, antibiotic dosing/timing, withholding ACE/ARBs, withholding nephrotoxins) - Assist with chest tube placement. - IABP management. - Impella LVAD/RVAD management. - ECMO. - Must be able to work variable and flexible shifts. | All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization. | |||

Qualifications: REQUIRED: - NYS Licensure and current registration as a Physician Assistant and Bachelor's Degree from an accredited physician's assistant program, BLS & ACLS Certification. - Minimum of 1 year experience in critical care. PREFERRED: - Previous experience in Cardiothoracic critical care preferred Surgery as a first surgical assistant. - Experience in Cardiothoracic critical care. |
