The Department of Medicine STAR Program at SUNY Downstate is seeking a full time Staff Assistant II. The successful candidate will: The Department of Medicine, Star Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Staff Assistant II. The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following: - Scheduling patient appointments in electronic scheduling system; ensure patient appointments are coordinated across disciplines and with research studies. - Help maintain patient flow by ensuring frequent communication with staff. - Perform telephone triage, assessing problem and ensuring patient phone calls are routed to the appropriate health care provider, including clinicians, nurses, social workers, and mental health providers. - Ensure and update all patient demographic information such as address, phone, and insurance coverage in the electronic medical record system. - Conduct missed appointment follow-up. - Greet patients and guide as necessary. - Communicate with other health care facilities regarding transfer of medical records, ensuring signed consent for all patient information. - Ensure the maintenance of all office equipment such as the copy machine, fax machine and telephone system. - Complete requisitions and follow-up to ensure timely delivery of supplies. - Order and maintain inventory of both medical and office supplies. - Participate in outreach and quality improvement activities related to STAR Health Center, including PDSA, LEAN and PCMH tracking measure projects. | All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization. | |||

Qualifications: REQUIRED: - AA degree with at least three years of experience working in a clinic/medical office/health care setting. - Must be proficient in current computer applications software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,and Powerpoint). - Must be comfortable working with HIV/HCV positive and LGBTQ populations. - Strong verbal, organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills required. - Must be available to work Monday/Wednesday evenings. PREFERRED: - Experience with electronic medical records. - Bachelor's Degree or certification in medical records administration. |
