Brief Description of Duties: Are you looking to take your career to new heights with a leader in healthcare? The Patient Access Department is at SUNY Downstate is seeking a full-time Registrar/Staff Assistant II to work a variable shift that includes flexibility to work variable days of the week. The successful candidate will: - Interviews and verifies demographic, biographic, and financial information with the patient and/or family members in order to complete a registration using the Eagle Database System. - Verifies insurance eligibility of all patients through EMEV (Medicaid), MCVR (Medicare), EBLC (Blue Cross) and Relay (for commercial insurances). - Distributes information relating to patients’ rights and the HIPAA privacy law. - Obtains patients’ signatures on all necessary forms authorizing consent and acknowledging receipt. - Reconciles all patient charts. - Assists patients’ or family members with inquiries. - Admits patients’ utilizing the Orchestrate System; Converts an Outpatient Registration to Inpatient. - Assigns beds to all admitted patients’; Performs bed transfers in Eagle Database System to ensure patient is in the correct room, allowing the physicians’ to locate the patient in the Health Bridge System. - Adheres to all regulatory standards. - Attends all registration meetings and completes all training in a timely manner. - Orders laboratory tests utilizing the Cerner Database and retrieves the results upon request. | All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior. Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization. | |||

Qualifications: - A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of one (1) year of hospital experience is preferred. - Strong communication and organization skills. - Strong computer literacy is highly desirable. - Knowledge of third party billing in a managed care setting is a plus. |
