The Department of Infection Control and Epidemiology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior Staff Assistant. As an essential part of the hospital infection control team, the senior staff assistant will be responsible for assisting with daily operational and reporting needs. The senior staff assistant will respond to routine inquiries and requests, solving administrative problems, assisting in preparing for regulatory visits, and performing special projects and assignments. The successful candidate will be:
- Responsible for all purchasing and payment transactions for the Department.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance and repairs and maintain adequate levels of office supplies.
- Screen and review the infection control program directors incoming telephone cells, verbal inquiries and request. On behalf of the program director, will respond to routine inquiries and requests and solve any administrative staff, Department heads and hospital staff.
- Assist the infection control program director in preparing for regulatory inspections. This involves frequent interaction with other administrative staff, department heads and hosptial staff.
- Performs special projects and assignments as requested by the hospital epidemiologist and infection control program director. This may include obtaining information from various hospital departments, outside agencies or other health care institutions as well as ensuring the execution of library searches for the review of subject specific literature.
- Responsible for collecting and submitting denominator data on a monthly basis to NHSN.
- Responsible for reporting notifiable diseases to the New York City Department of Health through Reporting Central.
- Update and distribute infection control policies for review at the control committee meetings.
- Troubleshoot issues, comments, complaints regarding Biovigil utilization and functioning, including generation of keys, distributions of badges, weekly reporting of hand hygiene reports.
- Responsible for organizing, managing and maintaining daily calendars and ling range schedules for the infections control program director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION

All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior.   Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently, take appropriate initiative as needed and follow directions.
- Strong interpersonal communications skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Experience in Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
